Welcome to Aalborg Monastery
Welcome to the Monastery of the Holy Ghost in Aalborg. An historic place, Denmark’s oldest social institution and among the country’s oldest inhabited building complex, offering modern residential apartments with cultural and historical values in the heart of Aalborg.
Today, the aim of Aalborg Monastery is to drive, preserve and use the monastery. This is done partly by ensuring a safe community for the residents of the 26 rented apartments and partly by being an open, cultural institution that communicates the very special history and function it has filled since 1431.
First as a Catholic monastery, where the Holy Order ensured mercy and care for the sick and vulnerable, following the Reformation in 1536, as Aalborg Diocesan Hospital and for more than 300 years the home of Cathedral School in Aalborg.
